Summary
Police and probation officers must receive a massive cash injection to monitor medium-risk sex offenders in the community, a children's charity said today. The NSPCC's demands could lead to an extra 20,000 offenders being monitored at a cost of pounds 25m a year. Offenders in England and Wales are monitored by police and probation officers under 42 local Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (Mappas). Last year's Mappa reports showed the number of highest-risk offenders referred to the multi-agency panels fell 24 per cent to 2,152 in the year.
The NSPCC wants to see Mappas given more resources so these stringent conditions can be extended to all medium-risk sex offenders.See the full content of this document
