Summary
David Marshall Lucky pink jersey had little effect on some dodgy goal-kicking but good agility to deny Alan Judge in first half. Largely untroubled in second period and no chance with deflected strike.
6 Paul Quinn Keeping young Adam Matthews out of the line-up and was solid again at right-back without being spectacular. But then let himself down with crucial error leading to Plymouth goal. 5 Mark Hudson (capt) Relished the physical battle with Rory Fallon and put his head in when it mattered. Might also have had a goal or two on another day as he showed up well in Plymouth box as well. 7 Anthony Gerrard Like Hudson, a no-nonsense defender who is not afraid to mix it when required. Gave Fallon a ear-bashing over stray elbow and was also threat at the other end as Cardiff pressed. 7 Kevin McNaughton Another game under his belt and has settled back into team as if he had never been away. Quick to offer Peter Whittingham support and more than capable in defence. 6 Chris Burke Never had the opportunity to continue his December scoring run. Aside from one cross and a lovely piece of second-half trickery, not the force of recent games. Withdrawn. 6 Gavin Rae Industrious performance but another player who focuses on the solid rather than the spectacular. Did his shift in a congested midfield but unable to provide telling influence. 6 Joe Ledley Always available to take a pass but all that running goes without reward, no creator by his side. Another one stifled by Plymouth endeavour, missed late chance. 6 Peter Whittingham Deadball delivery posed Plymouth all sorts of problems and in the first half it seemed a matter of time that his crosses would tell. But had little joy after the break. 6 Michael Chopra Just not going the striker's way at the moment. Hat-trick against Plymouth in August but another frustrating afternoon was rounded off when he chipped over in the second half. 6 Jay Bothroyd Offered a threat as always but had to contend with too many hopeful balls rather than thrive on quality service. Booked for agricultural foul in the first half. 6 Substitutes: Kelvin Etuhu (for Burke 65); Ross McCormack (for Chopra 71); Adam Matthews (for Quinn 86).
