Alan tate said he was 'numb' after Barnsley keeper Nick Colgan saved his penalty to end Swansea hopes of Championship football. Swansea's player of the year had the last act of a thrilling League One play-off final at the Millennium Stadium yesterday, but could only watch as Colgan dived to his right and silenced 35,000 Swans fans. Adebayo Akinfenwa's earlier miss consigned Swansea City to defeat and another season of League One football.

'I was just numb,' admitted Tate, who also had a gold-plated chance to win the match in the last minute of extra time. 'The emotion wasn't there at the time - just numbness that I hadn't scored.'
