THE NORTH STAR North Road, Cardiff CF14 STAFF: Friendly and attentive, the bar staff are everything you need - quick, efficient and knowledgeable. There are always plenty of them, too, so you won't be left stranded at the bar away from your friends for too long. 15/20 DRINK: There's a good range on offer behind the bar, with a variety of premium beers and lagers on tap, in bottles, and even - in the case of the ever-popular Red Stripe - in cans. An ample supply of wine and spirits is available, with a tempting display of champagne on show too. 16/20 ATMOSPHERE: There's a chilled feel to the North Star since its refurbishment, with two bars and a large beer garden. There are plenty of seats, with some in prime position for the regular live music and others secreted away in the corners if you want a quiet chat with friends.
12/20 DECOR: This is where the North Star really comes into its own. It is kitsch and trendy, but not in any way trying hard. The converted Victorian property is filled with comfy leather sofas, as well as inviting armchairs and the more traditional bar stools.
