Summary
David Marshall Unhappy to have conceded three, but he could do little to stop them and the end result is a City win. Marshall is at last providing stability at the back.
7 Adam Matthews His long throw led to City's third goal. He was outstanding against Coventry and not quite as good in Sheffield. There were mistakes, but he's a young defender learning his craft. 6 Mark Hudson (capt) Caught out for United's first goal when a long cross, which seemed to be flying out of the danger area, caught his back and slowed dramatically in front of scorer Henderson. 6 Anthony Gerrard Strong, solid and agile. United have some good strikers - Evans, Henderson and Camara. All three were used against City, but Gerrard was equal to the task. 6 Mark Kennedy With the score 0-0, Henderson looked certain to score, but 'Sparky' covered across and stopped the danger. Solid in defence and comfortable with the ball at his feet. 7 Chris Burke Prepared for the dirty jobs in chasing back to help out defensively and loves to run at defenders. Made way for McCormack during the second half as City looked for fresh legs. 7 Joe Ledley Booked early on, but that didn't stop the Fairwater boy competing for everything. Not at his best yet, but there is no doubting his passion for the Bluebirds. 6 Stephen McPhail Back to stay. Macca is such an important player for City. Their passing style demands control and accuracy. He has that in abundance and those first-time passes are a joy. 7 Peter Whittingham Scored his 10th, 11th and 12th goals of the season, a remarkable return from the midfield player. His first came from a penalty and United players did their best to put him off. 9 Jay Bothroyd Had a goal disallowed, scored just before half-time and then won a penalty which led to City's second. A solid, all-round performance from City's target man. 8 Michael Chopra Newly-appointed ambassador for England's 2018 World Cup bid, worked hard throughout. He chased back to help out and there are plenty more goals to come. 7 Substitutes Gavin Rae (for McPhail, 73), Ross McCormack (for Burke, 79).See the full content of this document
