DAVID CAMERON'S Conservatives topped 40% in the opinion polls today for the first time since May, extending their lead over Labour to 17 points.
The Tory advantage is the largest recorded by YouGov for the Sunday Times since September 2008, on the eve of the most intense phase of the banking crisis. The survey found the smaller parties, like Ukip, the British National Party and the Greens, fell back to a combined total of 15%, following a surge in support fuelled by the MPs' expenses scandal and the European elections in June.See the full content of this document
